Boxing Gloves FAQs
Which boxing glove weight should I buy?
Which boxing glove weight should I buy?
The right weight depends on your training requirements and body sizes. Don’t choose a glove by ounces alone. For example: a 16oz bag glove is not automatically suitable for sparring or vice versa.
Be sure to check the model’s intended use and then the appropriate weight. As a general guide, we recommend 14-16oz for sparring and 10-12oz for bag and pad work. For the best advice however, message our team through live chat and we will gladly assist you!
How should boxing gloves fit?
How should boxing gloves fit?
Firstly, try on your gloves with your hand wraps. They should feel secure without painful pressure, numbness or excessive movement, and you should be able to form a comfortable fist.
Fit will dramtically vary between brands and models so keep that in mind. Some boxing gloves have a snug hand compartment, while some Muay Thai gloves offer lots of room inside the hand capsule. Gloves may soften and mould to your hands with use, but don’t rely on breaking them in to resolve a painful or unsuitable fit.
Can I use the same gloves for bag work and sparring?
Can I use the same gloves for bag work and sparring?
Some training gloves are designed for both, but dedicated bag gloves should not be used for sparring. for example. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s intended use before purchasing your next pair.
Regular heavy bag and pad work can wear down padding quickly, so we recommend keeping a separate pair for sparring to lengthen the lifespan of boxing pairs of gloves. And most importantly be sure to replace your gloves when the padding or casing becomes worn out, or the smell becomes unbearable!
Should I choose hook-and-loop or lace-up gloves?
Should I choose hook-and-loop or lace-up gloves?
Hook-and-loop gloves are convenient for everyday training because you can fasten them yourself. Whereas Lace-up gloves offer an adjustable fit around the hand and wrist, but usually require someone to lace them securely.
Compatible lace converters can make some lace-up gloves easier to fasten yourself. The best option depends on your training preferences and whether help is available.
